Miley Cyrus - Breakout

Miley Cyrus is only 15 years old, but she loves what she does. She fearlessly embraces new creative directions and challenges every chance she gets. That's the underlying message in "Breakout", her brilliant new album on Hollywood Records.

"Breakout" is Miley's declaration of her artistic independence. Unlike her previous album which Miley shares with her Disney Character persona Hannah Montana, this new album is 100 percent Miley Cyrus. She co-wrote 8 of the 13 songs on the album and had her hand on every aspect of the music production.

The abum features her debut single, "7 Things", Miley Cyrus establishes that she is first and foremost a true rocker. Co-written with Antonia Armatao and Tim James, the song is a pounding disapproval of faithless love, seen through the eyes of an anxiety ridden teen. Her "7 Things Music Video", directed by Bret Ratner brings out the vulnerability below the surface of the song.

Miley keeps the tempo fast and furious with the title track "Breakout", a cry for freedom from school. The song was co written by Gina Schock of the Go-Go's. "Driveway",a heartbreak ballad co-written by Miley with producers Scott Cutler and Anne Preven, really pumps up the volume. Miley Cyrus sings about global climate change on "Wake Up America", but does so in an upbeat way your fans can take in. And dance to. Miley's take on "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" converts the Cyndi Lauper classic into an iPod-ready anthem. The same goes for "Full Circle", a sparkling rocker with a Spector-esque wall of sound and sensational vocal from Miley, who co-rote the tune with Cutler and Preven. "Fly on the Wall", is a fun and freaky rocker that incoprporates handclaps and a riveting tremolo refrain. Miley throws a curveball with the gently pulsing "Bottom of the Ocean," a ballad that captures the pain of loss so precisely, it's hard to imagine a 15 year old could have conceived it. She keeps that theme going with "Goodbye", a bright ballad about a pondering relationship that still feels too alive to be over. "Four Walls" and "Simple Song", are two tracks that push Miley ever further into self-reflection. Normally kids don't indulge in this level of sophistication, but it became clear long ago that Miley Cyrus doesn't do things the normal way.
